St. Anne Community and Nursing
Care Centre is a unique combination of
Acute Emergency services
and Long Term Care
:: Heliport and EHS ::
In 1997, as changes took place in the regular Ambulance Service
and with the introduction of the Shock, Trauma and Air Rescue
Society ( S.T.A.R.S), the Board of Directors of the St. Anne
Community & Nursing Care Centre realized the benefits of this
service. To accomplish this a special parcel of land would be
necessary, therefore, a committee of the Board approached the
Council of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish on May 11th. 1997 and
discussed the importance of acquiring a plot of land for a Heliport. In August of the same year our request was granted and
the Episcopal Diocese of Antigonish agreed to lease a suitable,
adjacent property to the west of the St. Anne Centre for health
purposes only.
Then came the commitment from the Ladies' Auxiliary i.e. to
raise the funds for a Heliport. The total cost of $26,500.00 was
donated to the Board of Directors from monies raised in the
communities. It was with pride that St. Anne Centre became the
second qualified and registered Heliport in the Journal of Air
Transports. In acknowledging the donation the Board of Directors
agreed to name the airbus landing.
On May 27,1998 St. Anne Centre celebrated the grand opening of
the second qualified and registered Heliport in the Journal of Air
Transports. The "St. Anne Ladies' Auxiliary Heliport" has
since proven itself as a tremendous asset to the St. Anne
Emergency Centre.
