A bit of history on the Isle
Madame Boat Club
The IMBC was incorporated Dec 24,1986. three lots of land were
donated by
the family of Clem Boucher who is an honorary life member of the
club.
The old government wharf which was part of the site was donated by
the
crown to the boat club. Prior to it's incorporation the club was
known
as the Arichat Boat Club.
In 1997 the board authorized and initiated a project to develop and
build a marina facility.
A two phase project was initiated with the assistance of Development
Isle
Madame and phase one, the dredging of some 13,000 cu.yds. of material
and
the construction of floating docks for 34 recreational vessels to
include water and electricity, was completed in 1999. Municipal
water
was piped across Arichat harbour by the club as part of the project.
Phase two , the construction of the breakwater to replace the
dilapidated
wharf was completed in 2005-2006
Seed financing for the project was raised through the issuance of
debentures to the membership. Major funding was received from ECBC
(Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation). Supportive funding was
received
from the Municipality of Richmond and St. Joseph's Credit Union,
Petit
De Grat.
The present day club house was enlarged in 2003 with all labour
supplied by the members.
Today the IMBC is an active club with a membership working at
continuously upgrading it's facilities. New docks, are being built
old
docks are being replaced including completely new wiring and
plumbing,
and club house facilities are being upgraded with the assistance of
a
grant from the Provincial Government and Saint Joseph Credit Union,
